Afghanistan crisis

Overview

This content is last updated on 11 November 2022.

WHO is responding to the health crisis in Afghanistan. Funds received from donors will be used by WHO to ensure:

  • Continued coordination with other agencies and health actors in the response to the crisis
  • Continued response to COVID-19
  • Continuity of health services for the population of Afghanistan
  • Provision of life-saving medical supplies
  • Timely response to potential outbreaks
  • Response to urgent trauma needs

WHO appreciates the contributions received to date from its donors. Timely funding saves lives, protects livelihoods, eases suffering and prevents further displacement.

WHO also thanks donors to the Contingency Fund for Emergencies (CFE). WHO released US$ 3 450 000 from the CFE since August 2021 to help airlift urgently-needed medical supplies and address the health consequences of the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
