Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection causing a severe flu-like illness and sometimes causing a potentially lethal complication called severe dengue. Dengue is a rapidly emerging pandemic-prone viral disease in many parts of the world, including in the Western Pacific Region.

WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme therefore monitors and assesses the spread of dengue on an ongoing basis.
